Review of Christmas Concert

Beenham Wind Orchestra held their annual Christmas concert at Beenham Primary School on Friday. Everyone got into the festive spirit, with the orchestra wearing Christmas tops and draped in colourful tinsel, and with an interactive performance with the option for the audience to join in with the carols.
The evening was attended by villagers and family and friends of the orchestra members. All were treated to mince pies and mulled wine.
The musical performance was a mix of traditional Christmas pieces, interspersed with carols. There was an excellent rendition of Christmas songs from some of the brass players and a memorable rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas sung by Chloe Anderson

The Concert was a great success and the people of Beenham enjoyed a very entertaining evening.

Fete Season 2017

Another successful round of summer fetes. The weather was lovely for all of them. Beenham villagers joined us on the Rec for an evening of music, picnics, beer from The Six Bells and a great barbecue. We played for the members of Phyllis Court Club at Henley Regatta and for the lovely Englefield School and village and finally for Padworth, who provided us with an amazing purple gazebo. Looking forward to playing at Whitchurch-on-Thames Fete on September 2nd.

This is the final concert in our series exploring music written for Wind Band, bringing us from 2000 to the present day. It includes three pieces that were commissioned by Beenham Wind Orchestra, the first, in 2002, by local musician and composer Torbjorn Hultmark, the second, in 2010, by young composer Lloyd Coleman and the third by Thomas Gibbs who wrote his piece, Chorales, in 2016 for our Conductor, Robert Roscoe, as a gift for his 70th Birthday. We will also be playing pieces by renown American composers Richard Saucedo, Samuel Hazo and Eric Whitacre, whose work 'Cloudburst' requires some audience participation, and a suite for Wind Band by the British composer Daniel Basford.

This concert is dedicated to the memory of Ian Hulin who was a member of our flute section from 2001 until his death in 2015. He made several arrangements for Beenham Wind Orchestra and we will be playing two movements from his arrangement of Monteverdi's Vespers 1610.
